J-14 BLOG SAYS:
Hey J-14ers!
This weekend I was super lucky! I got to see Push Play perform their biggest
show yet—a concert at the Nokia Theater in Times Square! If you haven't
heard of the native Long Island band yet, get ready to! The foursome sounds
like a mix of the Jonas Brothers and Simple Plan, adorable pop rockers with
a danceable electronic edge and big teenage anthems you'll want to sing
along to.
Before the first song even began, C.J. (the lead singer), Steve
(guitarist/keyboardist) and Nick (bassist) appeared on stage banging on one
drum. Very cool, but made even cooler because they were all wearing bright
white suits with black piping and glowing under a blacklight! And the
choreographed moves and high energy never stopped. They changed outfits
twice—C.J. was very proud of the shiny jeans he wore for the last few
songs—and had dancers perform with the band for a couple of songs in cool
camo outfits. At one point, Steve even played his guitar BEHIND his head!
Throughout the two sets, we were treated to over a dozen songs, including
"Don't Bring Me Down" (the first time they played the 80s-influenced song
live in a year!), the big ballad "Dreamer," the ridiculously catchy
"Situation" and a rockin' cover of Rihanna's "Umbrella." One of my favorites
was "There She Goes Again"— a girl in a wedding dress even walked out on
stage with C.J. as the song started!
After the show, I visited the boys backstage. Steve reenergizied with orange
juice, Derek with an apple and apple juice. All four boys were really
excited after playing such a great show. Check out our album for pictures
(how sweet are Steve's red sunglasses?), plus the videos the band made just
for you guys!
